Book Launch Imminent - intro to the project

Hello and welcome,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am starting this blog as the launch of my debut novel, Angel at the Paradise Hotel, is fast approaching and I wanted to share my excitement of that by giving you some background on the whole project.

In this series of posts I plan to share my love of Corfu and the reason I set my novel there. Then I will introduce you to the characters in the novel so that you can get to know them better. You could enjoy this either before you read the book or afterwards. I promise NO SPOILERS!

Let's jump right in!

What is so great about Corfu?

One of the most popular of the Greek islands, I had visited a few other ones before I ended up in Corfu. It is green and beautiful, as the above photo shows, and within days of my first visit became my favourite beach holiday destination. I love to travel - seeing the sights and soaking up new cultures, but if I want to relax in the sun to recharge my batteries, it's Corfu every time for me.

The island, with its 592 square kilometres, has a wide variety of resorts offering the whole spectrum of experiences. These range from unspoilt, low-key, or niche luxury, to over-commercialized, or even a bit party-wild. Take your pick, it's all there. Do some research if you've never been to the island before.

I first visited Corfu in the late 1980s. I was living in London at the time and as I love to dance I enjoyed clubbing in the capital with Stringfellows and the Hippodrome being my favourite venues. So, when I arrived in the small low-key resort it was a bit of a culture shock. Though, admittedly, picturesque I found it a bit too quiet. I remember speaking to a holiday rep moaning about that and was surprised to learn that many people returned again and again. A few days in though something went 'click' in my whole being and I fell in love with the resort and subsequently the island.

What resort, you may well be asking yourself now. Well, I love it so very much that I'm not sure if I will ever share that. The budding resort in Angel at the Paradise Hotel is fictitious and I call it Korkyra. This is the name of the mythological nymph daughter of the river Asopos, and the root of the island's name in Greek: Kerkyra.

Anyway, for me, Corfu is a place of stunning natural beauty where you can expect a warm welcome from the locals. Step right into this paradise in Angel at the Paradise Hotel and experience a summer vacation while sitting in an armchair at home.

Looking forward to sharing more of the backstory in my next post. Until then please check out my website for more info on me and my work.

Blessings,
