Hello and welcome,
I hope you are enjoying the backstory to my upcoming novel, Angel at the Paradise Hotel! I'd love to introduce you to another main character.

Stepping onto the stage is BETHANY
Who would play Bethany in a film? Sheridan Smith! Pictured above.

I have cast Sheridan in this role as she is currently starring in the reprise of the one woman play, Shirley Valentine at the Duke of York's Theatre, Covent Garden, 17th Feb - 3rd June 23. Apparently the tickets sold out within minutes, quicker even than for a Beyoncé concert! This reveals the popularity not only of Sheridan Smith, but also that of Shirley Valentine!  

But how, you may well ask, is that relevant to Bethany?

Well, it couldn't be MORE relevant, actually. 

Bethany did a Shirley Valentine when she went to Corfu.

In case you are not familiar with the expression "doing a Shirley Valentine" it is, based on the  eponymous play / film. The storyline shows a middle-aged British woman, in a stale marriage, children grown, dreams unfulfilled, who holidays on a Greek island with a friend, loves the lifestyle, and decides to stay on to start a new life. (The Willey Russell's script is clever, witty, and touching and a "must see" in  either form!) That basic premise can, and has been, applied in a variety of permutations but for me it's a woman of a certain age moving to Greece. What fun! What daring!

If you have read my previous posts you will know that Bethany, jolted by a Big Birthday into doing a Shirley Valentine, is hoping it will sort her life out. She goes on holiday to Corfu and doesn't use her return plane ticket.

In the prologue which you can read in the "Take a look inside the book" from the link above, she has a strong attraction to Aeron but will she act on that?

Well, she certainly meets some other very interesting people, and one of them is the Angel Gabriella!

Do you know anyone who has done a Shirley Valentine? 
Do you think they were brave or irresponsible changing their life completely? Do you wish it had been you? 

Did they ask your advice before they took the leap into the unknown? It's a very difficult balance trying to be a supportive friend but not wanting to encourage possible disaster.  

How will everything turn out for Bethany? I'm sure you'd love her to get some clarity on her life as the long, hot summer unfolds, but who knows...!

  Hello and welcome, I am so happy to tell you that  my debut novel ,  Angel at the Paradise Hotel is now published internationally!   I don't know where you are in the world right now but in Wales the weather is still chilly and my local readers are telling me they are loving the holiday sunshiny vibe of the book. The ones who have finished it are already asking for a sequel!
